Streetlight and Traffic Signal Cabling Data Capture – Barrie, Ontario

Barrie-Ontario-GDIC

Case details

GDIC successfully completed GIS solutions for the city of Barrie’s streetlights and traffic signal cabling data. The city of Barrie needed their data on streetlights and traffic signal cabling to be integrated into a comprehensive and flexible GIS platform.

  • Conversion:

All geospatial data relating to streetlights and traffic signals needs to converted into a digital format.

  • Integration:

All Geospatial data needed to be integrated into Web-GIS for proper location and asset management.

GDIC was selected by a contractor for the City of Barrie in Ontario to provide an overall GIS solution for the City’s Streetlight and Traffic Signal Network spreading around 108 sq. kms.

GDIC & the contractor located, digitally mapped and collected all metadata information in the most cost-efficient way within three (3) months, capturing data from thousands of overhead cables, underground streetlight cables, traffic signal cables and power supplies for streetlight and traffic signals.

The final GIS output, a full-scale digital framework of the City’s underground and on-surface infrastructure network, is now being used by the City for Asset Management purposes, long-term maintenance planning and by the “1Call Program”, enabling the City to drastically reduce its damage prevention costs via clearing.
