Rogers Communications Inc. is Canada’s largest wireless carrier, with 10.482 million subscribers, operating in the fields of wireless communications, cable television, telephone and internet connectivity with significant additional telecommunications and mass media assets with annual revenues around CAD$ 14.143 billion (2017) and more than 26,000 employees.

Rogers Communications has committed significant funds to expand its fiber network and connect to more clients across the province of Ontario. Due to the increasing amount of Fiber to the Home (FTTX) permit applications, cities throughout the province cannot handle the pressure, resulting to major delays for numerous multi-million dollar construction projects scheduled by Rogers Communications.

To alleviate the excessive costs associated with the permits, GDIC was used to expedite the permitting process by applying its expertise complemented by proprietary technologies. The contractor used GDIC to support Rogers on multiple Subsurface Utility Engineering projects across Ontario on an ongoing basis, capturing all underground, on-surface Utility Assets and Infrastructure Networks as well as Right of Ways, property lines, curbs and sidewalks. Via its processes and expertise, GDIC integrates “as-planned” and “as-built” field collected information in real-time and transfers final output to a GIS environment, creating permit-ready, engineering-grade output, much faster than with the conventional ways.

With GDIC’s processes applied, Rogers Communications has achieved impressive cost reductions on its FTTH projects by avoiding unnecessary delays and expediting permit applications. Rogers Communications keeps expanding its cooperation with INTUS for similar projects in other provinces while principals within Rogers Communications have been asking INTUS to take over the engineering part as well.
